Janet's Story
Janet was first diagnosed in 1999. She is now receiving Herceptin and dealing with metastasis. Her disease is currently stable.
Janet is a strong, active, resilient single mother with an autistic son. She volunteers at school and with Special Olympics, and continues to work part-time. Janet also provides care for a 3 year old grandson while her daughter works.
Janet has received memberships to a nearby municipal recreation center and municipal swimming pool from the Karen Dove Cabral Foundation. The center provides access to exercise facilities and whirlpool therapy, as well as childcare. She appreciates the benefits of exercise and respite now available to her. Janet says she is "incredibly grateful" that the foundation is able to provide her with this support.
Jade's Story
Jade is a single mother trying to care for her child and continue working. She says the financial and physical impacts of breast cancer treatment present significant challenges.
The Karen Dove Cabral Foundation is helping Jade be more capable at home and on the job by providing greater access to acupuncture to reduce the incapacitating side effects of chemo treatment. She is striving to get back to what she calls "my real life", working and being the best mom possible, as soon as possible.
Jade says, "Thank you for your generous gift. Because of this grant, I'm able to heal faster. Someday I hope to be able to pay it forward, to help other single moms in similar situations."
